Black Rose Theatre announces auditions for the holiday comedy, “Fruitcakes”, written by Julian Wiles and directed by Brenda Black.  Auditions will be Monday and Tuesday, September 25 and 26 at 6:30 at Black Rose Theatre in Brandon, MS.

Mix together a batch of fruitcakes, three dozen Christmas trees, 10,000 outdoor Christmas lights, a chicken pox epidemic, two southern spinsters, an estranged old man and a Christmas hog named Buster and you’ve got the recipe for a fun-filled and touching evening filled with holiday cheer.  The cast requires 4 men, 4 women, 6 boys and 7 girls.  Auditions are open to all and those auditioning will be asked to read from the script.  Cast members chosen must be available for all show dates, November 9 – 12 and 16 – 19.  For more information, contact us at or

Mack – male, 45-70; seller of whirligigs and Christmas trees

Jamie – boy, 11-15; runaway boy from nearby town

Miss Alice – female, 50- 80; gentle and caring spinster; Miss Sarah’s sister

Miss Sarah – female, 50 -80; grouchy spinster; Miss Alice’s sister

Betty Jane – female, 30-50; sheriff’s wife; director of town’s Christmas pageant

Beebo – male, 30 – 60; town sheriff.

Sally – girl, 7-10; Betty Jane and Beebo’s daughter.

Skeeter – male, 30-60; fisherman and poet.

Mattie Sue – female, 30-80; eccentric neighbor who has been married 6 times.

Little Beebo – boy, 11-15; Betty Jane and Beebo’s son.

Rick – male, 20-45, Mack’s son.  (walk-on role at end of play).
